Jacob's Dream
Psalm 91:1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
The “secret place of the Most High” spoken of in Psalm 91 is the place where God meets with man.
Recently I was directed in a book I was reading to look at the usage of the word “place” in Gen. 28:10-19, and based on that passage to look at what might be the characteristics of the “place” where God meets with man.
The passage deals with Jacob and God. We first hear of this man Jacob in Genesis 25. Jacob is the son of Isaac who is the son of Abraham. Often in the OT we see God referred to as “The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob”.
Abraham, a picture of the Fatherhood of God.
Isaac, a picture of the Son of God, Jesus.
And Jacob, a picture of man. (more…)

Someone once asked me if our youth group tradition of the “CHRISTMAS BALL” was born out of Troy’s silent rebellion to his Pentecostal upbringing (his version of “Footloose”, if you will…) or my deprived home schooled soul, who never had a prom…
Hmmm….
Perhaps the answer to the question would be… Yes. Yes to both. :) But really…
For the past five years, the youth ministry of L.O.G., has held the tradition of an annual Christmas Ball (a glorified dance party) to celebrate the birth of our King – Jesus Christ. Every year the students come dressed in semi-formal wear and together we dance the night away, while mix master, DJ’ Marco spins his music for us. It’s one of my favorite youth group events. I love seeing our kids so dressed up and dancing. We have a pretty good looking bunch of kids who have got some smooth moves…

Katie Mendelsohn poses a good question.
What feeds you spiritually?
Besides Sunday morning.
I was considering this question recently and came up with a list, not just one or two things. Relationships with people, nature, study, imagination and creativity, music, helping others. . . I ws struck by the fact that I couldn’t just come up with just one or two things—maybe it helps explain why I get involved in doing a lot of different things, in order to meet all those aspects of how I find God.
I remember hearing of a young devout woman who wanted to be a nun and joined a silent order, only to find that she had cut herself off from one of the main ways that God spoke to her—conversations with others. She still became a nun, but at a different order.
And then there is the reverse question: what hurts you spiritually? I’m not including sin in this consideration—that’s a given. For me, one thing in this list is loud noise.
What about you? What feeds you and draws you closer to the Lord?
