Ele Clama - ministry to the least of them

Here on the left is a photo of a wonderful Brazilian ARC ministry caled Ele Clama. Ele Clama means “cry out to Him,” and this name is well chosen for the ministry. Ele Clama is home to more than 100 men who are seeking a new life in Jesus. Many are from the streets of Belo Horizonte, drug addicts, alcoholics and “thrown away” people.

I had the great privilege of ministering here. This Sunday (8.5) was a special gathering in which the church associated with this ministry gathered together with the men of Ele Clama for a worship service and a meal together.

God allowed me to bring a message on true and false repentance, very similiar to a message I preached at LOG some time ago. This is a place where man hard men come, at the end of their ropes, having burned every bridge. Men with AIDs, and former hardened street criminals as wells as addictions are represented by the residents.

The worship took place in a simple building, and the place was packed with standing room only when the worship began. There was approximately 30 minutes of worship, with great joy and great enthusiasm from the first strum of the guitar. I immediately sensed the Holy Spirit was present, and I felt faith rise up in me as I approached the time that I would be preaching. I wondered would a similiar thing happen here that happened to me a few days ago? Would I see the power of God come upon this group as it had a few days before at the Buritis (Belo Horizonte)?

I got up to preach and almost immediately there was a shaking in the room. It was even a little difficult to get going because the people were already beginning to react to the presence of Jesus in the room. By the end of the service people seemed to be hungry to respond to the message on the diffence between true and false repentance. Many, many people came to seek prayer, and the room was full of weeping. But that was only the beginning. At a certain point Tom called for those who were seeking physical healing.

Almost immediately a woman was healed of some leg injury, experiencing an immediate relief of pain. There were many others touched by the power of God. The most extraordinary healing occured when a woman, who had been to the doctor only a few days before to get a ultrasound. The ultrasound revealed no heartbeat. The women and her husband were devestated. (Although she had not as yet miscarried the unborn child). At the meeting she was prayed for and immediately experienced movement of the unborn child. Praise the Lord, what seemed to be a great tragedy was wonderfully healed by Jesus during this service. Afterwards I saw the women and her husband weeping and rejoicing at this glorious turn of events.

After the time of praying for healing a great celebration broke out in the room. There was dancing and jumping and joyous worship that lasted for another 40 minutes. Some of the young men came to the front and began to dance, some even break dancing for the Lord. It was thrilling and weird, but still a joyous celebration of Jesus, alive and working among his people.

After the service, the brothers insisted that we remain for dinner and served us with great joy, as though we were visiting dignitaries. We were greatly encouraged. This is part of us. ARC in Brazil is part of ARC in the US. We are part of the same family and there was great joy for me in thinking on this. These street guys, and drug addicts, and mentally ill, and AID infected brothers are part of our family. Think on that for a minute…peace, the black dwarf
