Sleepless in Seattle - Troy and Scott at “Christ College”
Greetings from Seattle. These past few days we (Troy, Ned Berube and myself) have been in Seattle at a conference called “Christ College,” beging hosted by David Bryant and Proclaim Hope.
This has been a concentrated time of focusing on Christ, from Genesis to Revelation. We have spent hours together with pastors and leaders from churches in the Pacific Northwest seeking to saturate ourselves in a comprehensive picture of Jesus from the entire bible. It has been wonderful to be together with so many leaders with a passion to know Christ and savor Him.
Last night (Wednesday) was spent in several hours of prayer and for me it was a highpoint of this gathering. It seems to me that the truth of God’s word becomes life in me when I pray. We gathered first in a large group praying with the opening line - “Because Jesus is… (filling it in with numerous biblical themes that describe Jesus’ person and power). The title or characteristic we chose would then launch us into prayers based on that particular quality. Later we broke into smaller groups and prayed for one another, laying hands on each other and praying for the power and presence of Jesus to be with us. Really a cool time in the Lord.
Today is the completion of this time. There will be a time of extended worship, and concecration for the group to become messengers of hope in the various communities from which we come. I am so down with this stuff! Brothers from different areas of the Pacific Northwest are praying for our efforts to reach 50 new churches and leaders in this next year. At the end of last night David Bryant really encouraged us with confident exhortation that we will soon see a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit. He spoke specifically to those who had been praying for 15-20 years for revival reassuring them that they would see the answers to their prayers. One of ways David believes this will come is through a growing movement of young people all around the U.S. that are rising up with a passion for Jesus. One of the places that many leaders hope this passion will explode is in a gathering of young people being planned for Memorial Day weekend in 2008 called “Paradise.” The plan is to erect a huge throne that will be visible for miles around and gather a huge group of kids in a field in Paradise, Kansas for a day of exalting the Lord Jesus, and enthroning Him in praise and worship. Apparently there are already many nation youth leaders who are on board for this and the expectation is that this is going to be a signficant gathering of young people and even a possible tipping point for the great move of the Spirit so many people are praying for and believing God will bring!
We are encouraged! We are also beat (3 hours time difference is a killer, especially for old guys like me).
