Last night (Friday, March 30th) there was a gathering of several hundred Christians in Newark at the Metropolitan Baptist Church. Lamb of God’s worship team was involved in leading the worship for the evening along with a pastor from Benardsville named Peter Roselle (a great brother). There were many things that were wonderful about it. It was very racially mixed, which was a blessing. It was very passionate and filled with exuberant worship.
There were as well some great prayers prayed, as well as some very encouraging prophetic words given during the night. It was very centered on Newark, NJ. which was okay, since it was in Newark and that city has seen its fair share of troubles. So I didn’t really have a problem with the fact that the rest of Essex county was ignored. In someways Newark represents some of the greatest trouble plaguing the region and so it is fair to have the time be very focused on those needs. All in all I was blessed by the time, even if at moments it may have been a little over the top. (more…)

In John 3 Jesus utters some of the most well known words found any where in the Bible. “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Jesus made it plain that entrance into the Kingdom required something profound in terms of the interior life of a human being. If one is to relate to God, and his world (which includes the earth, but is much larger than the earth alone) then they will need a newness within, what scripture calls a new heart. This is not simply a new idea, or a new system of thought, or a new attitude. Jesus was speaking of a level of newness that means transformation at the deepest level of our motivations, our will, our emotions, and our thoughts. He was speaking of something to which the O.T. prophets pointed with great hope: Ezekial 36: (25)I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. (26) And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. (27) And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. However, I wonder - Do we really believe it is true and that we must relate to one another on the basis of this “new identity?” (more…)

The other night on 20/20 (ABC) there was a John Stossel report called “Enough,” which focused on a whole range of activity from politicians naming buildings after themselves, to a African American women who was committed to encouraging unwed couples with children to marry. One of the features involved a ministry called Ministry Watch, and I was really impressed by the guy who runs this thing and what he is trying to do. (more…)

Sunday (3.25.07) I will be preaching on the first few verses from Colossians Chapter 2.I have spent time thinking, praying and studying these few verses and I am so touched by what I find. First, the simplicity of what God is after. No matter how many times I come back to it, the beauty of love still, after many years grips me. Here in this passage Paul speaks of his struggle to impart to the Colossians a subtle, but plain truth: A great deal of our experience of Jesus is imparted to us through the quality of community we have as a local body of Christians. There is a real cool plug-in in Firefox called “Stumble.” Stumble is a plug-in that just sort of sends you out onto the internet randomly retrieving sites that are broadly under whatever catagory of interest you pre-programmed into Stumble. The results are some really interesting, sometimes hilarious and even useful sites. I want to share a few of them with you. Please comment if you find any of them remotely interesting. (more…)

This is our last transmission from Seattle. Its now 10:44 A.M. We have been here since 4:15 A.M. this morning. We have the good news that we are flying directly to Newark, but the crew hasn’t arrived yet, and the flight has already been delayed. (It was supposed to leave at 10:30 A.M.)
The item to the left is a “sad sack” - I thought it was clever so I included it because it kind of captures the moment. Actually there was really funny moment that Troy treated me to this morning. We were sitting in the food court area just killing time. He asked me a question about some Discovery special on the country of Borneo. But what made it really funny was that he pronounced the country Borneo as Born - Knee - Oh. We started laughing and it got so bad I thought I was gonna have a stroke from laughing. I guess this is the result of being in an airport from 4 A.M. until 10:44 A.M. But we both had a really good laugh and the endorphins really felt good!
I hope the snows getting cleared away. I think the Lord gave me a really good word for tomorrow… peace

Okay… here we are. Its 4:49 a.m. in Seattle (Saturday) and we are trying to get back to Jersey. So far the best we can do is Houston to Philly. That means tacking two hours on the trip once we touch down in Philly. Since we don’t know what the roads are like and how the driving is later today we are somewhat freakin’ out trying to figure how to get back there.
We are trying to get a flight from here directly back to Newark. (There is a rumor that we might get a flight at 10:30 am that will take us to Newark about 6:30 or 7:30 P.M. tonight). It looks very flaky and we are just praying and sort of hanging on hoping that God will grant us favor. (more…)

Hey, what gives? We go away for a few days and NJ decides to have a snow day? Oh well, I guess we are going to have to go to Pike’s Market and wander around all these cool shops and maybe pay a visit to the very first Starbucks (which actually has coffee that tastes good, and not burnt like the crap at every other starbucks). Well, its a tough job but somebody has to do it.
Then we are going to fly out of this place tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. and then to Houston and then to Philly and then lad Noah Polyniak will fetch us and return us to our homes. We are having an adventure. Anyway, fellow denizens of the Lamb we will, with God’s help be back Saturday night about 9 or 10 p.m. (more…)

Greetings from Seattle. These past few days we (Troy, Ned Berube and myself) have been in Seattle at a conference called “Christ College,” beging hosted by David Bryant and Proclaim Hope.
This has been a concentrated time of focusing on Christ, from Genesis to Revelation. We have spent hours together with pastors and leaders from churches in the Pacific Northwest seeking to saturate ourselves in a comprehensive picture of Jesus from the entire bible. It has been wonderful to be together with so many leaders with a passion to know Christ and savor Him. (more…)
